Hobart is Australia's wildest capital. kunanyi / Mount Wellington rises 1,271m directly above the city. The Derwent River foreshore stretches from Sandy Bay through the docklands to Cornelian Bay. Trails out of the city centre put you in temperate rainforest within 20 minutes. Hobart is the only Australian capital where you can finish a hard hill run by walking past the wallabies on a quiet trailhead.
Hobart fitness is outdoor and wilderness-flavoured. Trail running is huge — kunanyi/Mount Wellington has dozens of routes from beginner to brutal. The Point to Pinnacle Half Marathon climbs around 1,270m from the Wrest Point Casino to the summit each November and is a local rite. The Hobart Rivulet trail is a morning fixture. The cooler climate (winter mornings 4–8°C, summers around 20–25°C) makes year-round outdoor training comfortable.
FITURO is free on iOS and Android, with no subscription tier — and as of May 2026 the Hobart community is one of the most active in Australia. The Australian Department of Health and Aged Care recommends 2.5–5 hours of moderate physical activity per week for adults aged 18–64; that target is meaningfully easier to hit when you have a partner waiting on you.
